Project 52 - Week 14

So this weeks challenge was one more version of a self portrait. We were asked to do a self portrait that somehow portrayed the overall emotion that is characterizing our life right now. So...if we are filled with beauty, bliss & butterflies...we can do a happy dance selfy. And...if we are stressed to the point of not being able to recognize your own life...well then we can do a different kind of image. We were told to just decide on a word/emotion that would characterize our life right now...today...and come up with an idea to represent that 'feeling'.

So...I had several thoughts about my life right now...,but one thought stuck out.  Maybe some of you can relate!
Anyone feeling a little stretched for time?

Project 52 - Week 13

So my project 52 challenge this week was Public Restroom. Hmmm, yeah - so we were asked not to post anything gross or inappropriate.  Okay I went with an easy plan.  I had this vision of shooting the swirling water of a toilet with slow exposure so it would capture the swirling motion.  After several tries with my camera and tripod I watched the water without my camera and realized that not all toilets swirl.  I know, it was news to me to.  This toilet just sucked the water straight down.  No matter what this just wasn't interesting so on to Plan B.  Maybe that's what I should call this challenge instead of Project 52 - Plan B

Project 52 - Week 9

So seriously this weeks challenge made me feel like a stalker.  I didn't even know what street photography was.  My best description is candid moments caught in the streets in black and white.  I missed so many moments either because I hesitated or I just wasn't ready.  I choose this one because of the kid on the lefts eye contact.  Like I said I felt like a "stalker".

Project 52 - Week 8

So I am posting my challenge for the week even though I don't want to.  I am not proud and I admit I shot it the last morning possible before I headed off to work.  My goal with posting to my blog was to help me be accountable for doing the project.  So here is my post.  Our theme was "a bugs eye view".  This is a shot of a row of peas growing in my garden.  Hopefully the bugs will leave my peas alone because frankly I'm just happy to have something growing. Grow peas GROW!

Project 52 - Week 7

The theme for this weeks photography challenge was "broken".  I fought for ideas all week and I never came up with anything I felt excited enough to shoot.  With my sisters family coming in town for soccer tournaments Thursday through Monday I actually gave up and figured I would skip this week and not submit.  Because her sons team was short a player my son Logan got invited to play with them.  Today at their final game they pretty much got crushed.  I caught this image of them at 1/2 time while their coach was giving them a pep talk.  With their heads hanging down I felt this shot captured a "broken" spirit.  They played hard the second 1/2 but the other team was just too much older and too much bigger.
Yes, it really was THAT muddy. We got 2 mini vans stuck in the mud in 1 weekend.  Here are a few bonus shots from today.

Project 52 - Week 6

This week the theme was vehicle.  I decided this was a good chance to try a  new technique.  Both of the shots below were shot at night with no flash and very little surrounding light.  I put my camera on a mini tripod and used my wireless remote.  I am not sure how long my shutter stayed open, but it was a long time.  I gave both photos a texture overlay in my editing.
The first shot is the one I actually turned in for the challenge after my family voted it as their favorite.  The second one is my favortite.  What do you think?

Project 52 - Week 5

This weeks challenge was a self portrait with a twist.  I thought I got out of doing a self portrait by missing week 1 but apparently we will be doing more than one self portrait:(  This week we were asked to do a self portrait with something we loved and that something couldn't be another person.  Hummm...so many options to choose from, but below is what I went with.
Yes, I did fight the urge to tan up my legs, erase the freckles, and I had to fight really hard not to contour on a little more muscle definition for my calves. Oh, well you go with what you've got, right? ♥

Project 52

So I decided to jump on board with Sandi Bradshaw and her 52 week photography challenge.  I started 3 weeks late so mine will be a 49 week challenge.  Each week we will have a different photography challenge.  I felt like this was a fun way to challenge myself to try new things and shoot in new ways.  This week we were challenged to shoot "motion".  My plans of course didn't turn out like I expected.  I shot some photos of my son Logan "wall running" but I just wasn't happy with how much motion I was able to capture.  Hum... thought it would be easier.  When we got home I shot a few of him on his bike just for fun.  I ended up choosing one of these as my challenge shot because I just thought it turned out more interesting.  What do you think?  I included both shots just for fun.
Yes, I know...he kind of looks like a creepy ghost:)
